Do You Need A Dj?

A disc jockey’s role in a party cannot be disregarded. Most people throwing parties choose a DJ, whose services are generally more economical. You have to hire a DJ in the same way that you choose a good location or caterer. The caterer can satiate your guests. A DJ can entertain them. Therefore hiring a DJ is important.

You can find DJs in your area on the internet. Many have websites or pages on social media now. The old fashioned way is to search the yellow pages. Asking friends for recommendations can make the search easier. But you have to phone prospective DJs to see whether they can be at your party. Having several options is nice in this case.

The first thing you may want to ask is the cost of their services, but keep yourself from asking that rude question. That question can be properly asked once you have described the nature of your event. How long the party lasts largely determines the cost of the services of a disc jockey. At the same time, other factors play a role in determining the cost, too, like how far the venue is, the kinds of music that would be played, the equipment needed, the size of the party, and so on.
Sometimes DJs may not respond right away, because they are working or preoccupied. It’s common that no one would answer, but expect them to return your call within a day. If not, consider others.

Now, you don’t make arrangements with a DJ over the phone. Arrangements should be made face to face. On the phone, schedule an appointment on a date when both of you would be available to talk about party details. Reserve at least an hour for this affair. Tell the DJ to show you his material. If he can invite you to his studio, it would be better.
Most people remember they need a DJ on the eleventh hour, when budget has been exhausted on catering and venue. This results in the tendency to hire cheap event entertainment services. So remind yourself to include hiring a DJ during the planning of the event. There are DJs that offer very inexpensive services, which prove to be really cheap in the end.

Why do you have to meet with the DJ when you can just talk over the phone? If you’re the type of person who’s fine with making arrangements over the phone, by all means hire a DJ over the phone. But you should as much as possible meet the disc jockey. You need to speak with the DJ in person to know how well he approaches you. If you don’t like the way he handles himself and the way he talks to you, you probably will not be able to get along. Hire someone whom you develop rapport with.
Can he handle your event? If you are hosting a dance party, hire a disco/hip-hop DJ. If you are having a wedding event, hire one that has handled wedding events. Disc jockeys are mostly not multifaceted individuals. Most specialize in certain types of events.
